講(こう)演(えん)は長(なが)たらしくて私(わたし)はつまらなくなった。

そんな風(ふう)に言(い)うと４語(ご)で済(す)むところが２７語(ご)も必(ひつ)要(よう)になるし、長(なが)たらしい表(ひょう)現(げん)の伝(つた)えるストレートな内(ない)容(よう)は理(り)解(かい)してもらえるだろうが、説(せっ)得(とく)力(りょく)は失(うしな)われてしまうであろう。

• That would be twenty-seven words instead of four, and while the bare message of the longer statement would be understood, the persuasive force would be lost.
