• The purpose of the training is to overcome these one hundred and eight worldly desires and attain peace of mind.

宮(きゅう)廷(てい)では、平(へい)安(あん)初(しょ)期(き)には中(ちゅう)国(ごく)文(ぶん)化(か)の模(も)倣(ほう)一(いっ)辺(ぺん)倒(とう)でしたが、平(へい)安(あん)中(ちゅう)期(き)には日(に)本(ほん)的(てき)な美(び)意(い)識(しき)に基(もと)づいた文(ぶん)化(か)が花(はな)開(ひら)きました。

• During the Heian period's initial stages, the imperial court completely devoted itself to imitating Chinese culture, however during the midst of the period, a culture based off of Japanese sense of beauty began to bloom.

平(へい)安(あん)前(ぜん)期(き)には密(みっ)教(きょう)を空(くう)海(かい)らが中(ちゅう)国(ごく)から導(どう)入(にゅう)し、密(みっ)教(きょう)美(び)術(じゅつ)が生(う)まれました。
